Description
Snow covers the banks of the Merced River and the Pohono Bridge in Yosemite National Park. Ice and winter coated trees rims the banks as the water picks its way between the snow-capped rocks toward the sea. Pohono Bridge exemplifies the National Park Service "rustic style" of architecture through its use of a stone veneer to conceal its reinforced concrete substructure. Pohono, which roughly translates from the Ahwahneechee as "Puffing Wind", was the Indian name for the nearby Bridalveil Fall.
